Ahhhh, flirting. When done correctly, it brightens everyone's day. It is an empty promise, yet it is light and refreshing. The art of flirting is fading away. This is not a tease, where someone's ego is damaged. It is not a serious offer, it is like a bright soap bubble of possibilities. Some high schoolers and a few college types know flirting but later they lose it. Some people in their 20s and 30s use it while dating, then marry and forget it. Everyone becomes so serious with age and settling down that no one has fun flirting any more. It is not an infidelity, it is shallow entertainment only. Like most things, it has to be used, sharpened like a knife, practiced like a musical instrument. Thus the art is lost.
There are those who never knew how to flirt. They think everything said or done is serious and meant to be. Many men are guilty of thinking every flirtation is a proposition, whoever flirts becomes their property and every offer carved in stone. Pity, a light hearted exchange is just what some people need, and nothing more.
Unfortunately, there are women who use flirting as a weapon and everyone pays the price. They get what they want (do they?), the men get burned and then view women from that moment on as calculating bitches. Sad but true. Everyone loses.
But when you find someone who flirts . . . real flirting . . . it's an uplifting experience. It makes you happy, desireable, fun to be with. It makes you like yourself, the company you keep, and it snowballs from there - people want to be with other happy fun people. Flirting makes the sun come out, makes you happy to be doing anything, makes you smile and want to share. It's almost a lost art. But there are those who know how to do it, use it and it makes everything so much nicer.
How are you at flirting? Do you smile a lot? Offer to buy coffee? Say funny positive things? Do you hold hands? Do you ask a lot of silly questions?
Do you change check out lines just to stand next to someone who looks good? Do you say something funny to share a laugh?
Shame there's not a lot more flirting. It is so much fun and doesn't cost anything. A nod. A wink. When was the last time you winked at someone?
There are no flirting rules. The essence of flirting is free and easy, nothing binding, nothing serious. There is a line between flirting and stalking. True flirting is innocent.
If you are going to flirt you must practice often. You don't have to say a word. Wave when someone is passing by in a car or bus. When walking, give someone the right of way, then wink. A wink can be a lot of fun. When was the last time you blew a kiss to someone? Flirting is always in season. A very wise saying . . . Doesn't matter where you get your appetite as long as you eat at home.
Now, if flirting could become a national pastime, there could be flirting classes, flirting clubs, flirting seminars and conventions, flirting for world peace and flirting for good health. Everyone could flirt. Flirting is not a new thing . . . even the Victorians in London had Flirtation Walk. And once you've started, you'll never get enough. Oh, you flirt!
